“A Delicate Force”

-For my series, “A Delicate Force” I wanted to focus on lighter, more beautiful subjects than I would typically highlight. For me, the first part of the year was very heavy, as I’m sure many of you can relate. Given the social landscape in which the year started, I really needed a break from the witty, political type art which is my typical norm. So during the early months of 2017 I continually found myself being drawn toward simplistic moments, those powerful moments of peace and serenity. My best attempt to describe them in words was “Delicate in form, but powerful in energy.” This is the headspace from which I drew most of the inspiration for this series.

Similar to last year; I will be donating 10% – 15% of my commissions from this show to a local nonprofit organization. This year, it will be going to Hope Crew.

The other 85% of my commissions will be directly donated to an equally important organization called: “Cody’s trying to sell enough art to pay for health insurance, that way he doesn’t have to go back to a real job with benefits, a name tag, and a schedule.”

Reception on June 9th, 2017 from 5pm – 8pm

From The Artist:

“On top of all the noise, and in front of the archaic backdrops of our lives, there sits something very peaceful and angelic. When I paint I feel like I can find that something, and speak from it. There are a lot of things in life that we feel are unchangeable. Rules become suffocating, and there are always forces that we wish we could stand up against. I paint to remind myself that I capable of escaping the oppressive. And I think we all need that drive.

I learned at a very young age that there is an exception to every rule, and they can always be broken. When I paint, I hope to remind that YOU ARE that exception. Make your own rules, live on your own terms, and stand up when you have something to say.” – Dakota Dean

Bio:

Using only spray paint (and maybe a few satirical news articles), Dakota Dean’s bold and provocatively vibrant works share a counter-cultural message of independence, and freedom of thought. Dakota Dean was born and raised in a small town outside of Provo, Utah. In 2012 he moved to Seattle, WA in search of a broader horizon. Shortly after arriving, he picked up his first spray can.
